chirp chirp

i recently got a really fun new craft toy - a cricut (as i learned, at michael's, pronounced like cricket)!  it is like a printer, but instead of printing, it cuts.  while i think it is designed for scrapbooking, i have been finding tons of fun uses for it (the past three years of family pictures reside on my computer, nowhere near a scrapbook, let alone a photo album - a topic for another time).

it is a really fun gadget, i must say.  paper is another little fetish of mine (like fabric).  i have a rather large stash from when i used to make books.  and, paper source is definitely a major weakness of mine.  i can see this all being really great for making card, tags, labels, and (hoping to figre this out soon) stencils.  anyway, i went a little wild for ellie's birthday (a treasure hunt)- making tags, labels, banners, etc..

i made decorations for the bags (tags with a 5 cut out) and unique tags for each guest:

each guest got a personalized map with a corresponding tag:

the maps were of the outside of our house and had an individual trail to find each bag:

the bags were found and enjoyed (in costume, of course):

i also used the cricut to make a banner - cutting flags from patterned paper and letters from solid paper.  next time i would probably do the reverse, but it ended up working out pretty well.

the party was a great excuse to employ the cricut, but more importantly a way to say happy birthday ellie!

So cute! When I was up all hours nursing Anabelle I saw the cricut infomercial and if I was anywhere near the phone I would have bought it! I've since forgotten about it, but you've reminded me what a cool gadget it is!
